Soccer – Vertonghen seeks final glory

Jan Vertonghen hopes to bring a crazy season to a successful conclusion by helping Tottenham beat Liverpool in the Champions League final in Madrid. Spurs were close to going out of the competition at the group stage when they were beaten by Inter Milan and Barcelona before being held to a draw by PSV Eindhoven. However, they rallied to reach the knockout stages and beat Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 before knocking Manchester City and Ajax out in thrilling fashion. Vertonghen said: "It's been the craziest season ever. We have all played our part and hopefully we can hold the trophy at the end of the game. "In the group stages, we should not have lost that away game at Inter, we got one point after three games so to be playing in a Champions League final is something to cherish." Spurs are 7/4 with bet365 to lift the Champions League trophy while Liverpool can be backed at 4/9.
