Rugby League – Woolf pens Saints extension

Kristian Woolf has agreed a deal to stay on as St Helens head coach for the 2022 Super League season. Saints are the reigning Super League champions and are 15/8 with bet365 to win the Grand Final again this year under Woolf. The 46-year-old initially agreed a two-year-contract when he succeeded Justin Holbrook at the Totally Wicked Stadium before the 2020 season, but he will now stay on for at least next term as well. After guiding Saints to the Super League title last year, Woolf has since led them to glory in the Challenge Cup for the first time since 2008 when his side beat Castleford Tigers at Wembley earlier this month. Woolf is pleased he will have a third year in charge and he paid tribute to the players he's worked with at the club, describing them as "exceptional". St Helens are second in the current Super League table, six points behind leaders Catalans Dragons, and are next in action when they go to Hull FC on Monday.
