Golf – G-Mac relishes Portrush chance

Graeme McDowell is looking forward to the US Open at Pebble Beach, having qualified for the Open Championship at his home course of Portrush. McDowell sank a lengthy par putt on the final green at the Canadian Open to secure a top-ten finish, which was good enough to claim a spot at the Open. And that situation has taken some of the pressure off McDowell, who now heads to Pebble Beach, the scene of his US Open victory nine years ago. He told the Belfast Telegraph: "There were Open spots up for grabs and it's nice to get the job done so I can enjoy what will be a very special week in my home town. I'm ecstatic to be in the field. "The crowds know all about my bid to make the Open and I was reminded about that on virtually every tee box. Now I've got the extra weight off my shoulders and can look forward to the next few weeks." McDowell is 70/1 with bet365 to win the US Open for the second time in his career.
