Wolfie eyes fourth world title

Martin Adams begins his bid for his fourth BDO World Darts Championship this afternoon when he takes on Jan Dekker in the opening round of the 2015 competition.

Wolfie lifted the trophy at Lakeside in 2007 for the very first time and then followed that up with more success in this tournament with wins coming in 2010 and 2011. He is 8.50 to become a four-time champion a week on Sunday.

The 58-year old has not won a major with the BDO since his last victory at Frimley Green but heads into this year’s World Championship as the number three seed, with just James Wilson and Alan Norris ahead of him in the seedings.

Adams’ opponent, Dekker is a two-time semi-finalist in this event and one was one leg away from the final 12 months ago when he went down 6-5 to Norris in their last four encounter.

Three-time Lakeside runner-up Tony O’Shea will have to break his duck in this tournament as an unseeded player, if he is to do so this year.

The Silverback faces Scott Mitchell this evening in the first round in one of the ties of the draw. The last time O’Shea reached the final at Lakeside was in 2013 when he won just on set against a rampant Scott Waites.

Six years ago was the closest O’Shea has come in his three final attempts. He was trailing 6-4 but won two consecutive sets to force a decider for the title. Sadly for the man from Stockport, he lost out to the Count for the championship.

World number three Mitchell is looking to get beyond the second round this year for the first time in his career in what will be his sixth appearance at Lakeside. He has been handed the number four seed in the event after a solid 2014.
