Heather Watson continued her superb run of from ahead of the Australian Open as she reached the semi-finals of the Hobart International.

Watson, who will be the only British representative in the women’s singles draw in Melbourne, saw off Italian Roberta Vinci to make the last four in Tasmania, running out a 7-6 6-2 winner to set up a clash with Alison Riske.

And Watson was pleased with another fine display in a tough encounter, admitting that she her sights set on a second WTA Tour title, saying: “Definitely, but I’m just thinking about my next match.”

Watson is 2.20 to defeat American Riske in the last four, with the latter 1.61 to win the match, while Watson is available at 3.75 to win the Hobart International title.

The Channel Islander has been forced to make progress the hard way in Hobart, having seen off Magdalena Rybarikova in round one before causing an upset with a 6-3 6-1 victory over fifth seed Sloane Stephens in the second round.

Watson was clearly happy with her game after defeating Stephens, adding: “I’m feeling good and I’m feeling confident after these first two matches.

“I had a tough draw in the first match and then Sloane in the second round, so I’m very pleased to get through those matches.”
