The fit-again Stuart Broad says that it is imperative that England get some wins under their belts in their warm-up tri-series ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Seamer Broad is fit and raring to go after undergoing surgery on his right knee and is determined to help his country challenge for glory at the world event in Australia and New Zealand.

I don’t expect us to win the World Cup if we don’t go in with some victories in this tri-series.

However, England have the small matter of a warm-up tournament involving Australia and India to look forward to first and Broad is aware of just how important those games will be.

He told Cricinfo: “We need to start winning some games, the confidence and momentum that brings is important. We need guys scoring hundreds and taking four or five wickets, that boosts the whole squad.

“I don’t expect us to win the World Cup if we don’t go in with some victories in this tri-series.

“No team has ever been better prepared for a World Cup so there can be no excuses. In the past, we might have come into a World Cup after a gruelling Ashes series, but this time we have perfect preparation in this tri-series.

“And we will go to Australia with a batting line up that could excite the world. Guys like Alex Hales, Jos Buttler, Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali can strike the ball beautifully. We just need to get them clicking together.”

The tri-series gets underway on 16th January when England take on the Baggy Greens at the SCG, with the final slated for Perth on 1st February.

Meanwhile, England can be backed at 11.00 to win the World Cup for the first time, with Australia 3.50 and co-hosts New Zealand 8.00.
