Waller to unveil his big guns

Top trainer Chris Waller will have some of his star-studded horses on show at Rosehill on Tuesday as the lucrative Sydney carnival approaches.

Waller will be strongly represented as he begins to unearth his big guns ahead of the carnival and all eyes will be on Waller’s three-year-old fillies in heat 14.

That is when Thousand Guineas winner Amicus and Flight Stakes runner-up Winx will step out for their first public appearance this year.

“Winx has come back much stronger than she was in the spring,” Waller said. “I’d say she’s 95 per cent of the way to being a mature racehorse, whereas in the spring I think she was only 85 per cent.”

With this in mind, Waller is keen to test Winx beyond the mile, while Amicus is likely to stick to the shorter races.

“Initially they might find themselves in one or two races together but I’d say they’ll take different paths as they reach their targets,” Waller added.

Other horses of note on Tuesday include Group 1 winner Cosmic Endeavour and smart Godolphin colt Sweynesse in his first appearance since finishing eighth in the Cox Plate.

Meanwhile, Red Ripper is 26.00 to win the Wellington Cup and The Fire Inside can be backed at 17.00.
