Trio earn Essex deals

Essex have invested in three of their young players by offering them two-year contracts at Chelmsford.

Jamie Porter, Callum Taylor and Tom Moore have all signed up until the end of the 2016 first-class season.

It represents real progress for fast bowler Moore in particular as he was playing club cricket for Brentwood at the start of 2014 season when Essex’s lack of bodies saw them turn to the leagues.

“Tom came in when we were struggling with injuries early last season, and performed well. It’s great to be in position to sign him properly,” explained Essex head coach Paul Grayson.

Porter, 21, made his first-class debut against Kent and returned to the County Championship team towards the end of the campaign as they stormed to six wins in seven matches, narrowly missing out on promotion to Division One.

Seventeen-year-old all-rounder Taylor was a key member of the Essex team that reached the Second XI County Championship final.

“We are delighted with the progress all three are making and see them as an important part of our future,” added Grayson.

“It is something we are really committed to here at Essex, namely developing our youth players and giving them a chance to play first XI cricket.”

Essex are 4.50 to with the Division Two title next season.
