Thompson retains faith in David Hercules

Trainer David Thompson remains optimistic David Hercules will perform in the WA Pacing Cup on Friday night despite a disappointing back-line draw.

David Hercules won the Fremantle Cup at Gloucester Park last week, but his bid to record two feature wins in a week were dealt a blow when he came up with barrier 11.

Northview Punter landed barrier one and is in prime position to lead from the front but Thompson is not too downbeat.

Reinsman Morgan Woodley will again partner David Hercules, whose Fremantle Cup victory boosted his earnings past $1million.

“He’ll need luck, but Morgan’s got 2900m to get him in to a winning position,” Thompson said. “The horse is at his peak.”

Meanwhile, Bettors Fire drew gate six in the pacing cup and trainer-reinsman Kyle Harper said the six-year-old was ready to produce a quality effort.

“I’m delighted he’s on the front line,” Harper said. “This gives me the chance to take him forward in early stages.

“He was having his first start for a month when fourth in the Fremantle Cup. Bettors Fire benefited from the race. He’s won five of his past eight races and has the class for Group 1 success.”
