Tennis – Kerber content with progress

Angelique Kerber was pleased that her form seemed to be improving as she fought her way through to the third round at Wimbledon. Top seed Kerber, who lost in the SW19 final to Serena Williams 12 months ago, was made to battle by Belgian Kirsten Flipkens before she completed a 7-5 7-5 victory. And the German left-hander, who needs to reach the final again to retain her number one world ranking, was pleased with her efforts. She said: "I played some really good tennis and feel my rhythm is back and I am fighting for every single point." Next up for Kerber is a clash with Shelby Rogers of the United States, with the German having won their only previous meeting, which came in Miami earlier this year. Kerber is 1/5 with bet365 to reach round four with a victory over Rogers, while she is 4/7 to win in straight sets.
