Tennis – Federer will give it his ‘best shot’

Roger Federer is ready to give it his "best shot" in the French Open semi-finals against Rafael Nadal after exceeding his expectations by reaching the last-four. The 37-year-old has only won the clay-court Grand Slam once in his illustrious career and that was a decade ago in 2009, while he has missed the previous three tournaments in France to ensure he is fresh for the grass-court campaign. However, having returned to Paris this year, Federer booked his place in the semi-finals with a four-set win against fellow Swiss Stan Wawrinka. The 20-time Grand Slam winner will face 'king of Clay' and favourite, Nadal, on Friday and he is determined to give the Spaniard a tough test to prevent him moving one step closer to a 12th French Open title. Federer, who is 11/2 with Bet365 to win, said: "And now I have the match with Rafa, and I'm clearly excited. I hope I can recover well in the next couple of days, which I'm sure I will, and I'll give it my best shot on Friday."
