Tennis – Federer reveals record doubts

Australian Open champion Roger Federer is doubtful that he can win four more Grand Slam titles to move level with Margaret Court's record of 24. The 36-year-old successfully defended his title in Melbourne in a five-set thriller against Marin Cilic, which ended 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 3-6 6-1 in the Swiss star's favour. It ensured Federer a record-equalling sixth success in Australia and moved him on to 20 major titles so far in his career. He has already won more Grand Slams than any other man, but still sits behind Court, Serena Williams on 23 and Steffi Graf's 22. And when asked if he could at least equal Court's total of 24 before he retires, Federer, who is 9/4 with bet365 to defend his Wimbledon crown in 2018, said: "I don’t know, I don't think so. I didn’t think 20 was ever possible to be honest. I think it's too far."
