Tennis – Fed the favourite for Zverev

Alexander Zverev is ready for the challenge of facing Roger Federer after making a winning start to his first-ever bid for glory at the ATP Tour Finals. The highly-rated 20-year-old German overcame Marin Cilic in a three-setter at the O2 Arena in London, eventually prevailing 6-4 3-6 6-4. Earlier on Sunday, six-time champion Federer eased past Jack Sock in straight sets and Zverev believes that the Swiss ace is very much the man to beat this week. He told the official ATP Tour website: "I think anyone beating Federer in this group has a good chance of progressing. He's the favourite, definitely, in all of the matches he plays." Including a Hopman Cup clash, Zverev holds a 3-2 winning record against Federer, having claimed victory in two of their three matches played in 2017. Zverev, 3/1 to defeat Federer in Lonsdon, edged home in three tie-break sets at the Hopman Cup, while he claimed a 6-3 6-4 victory in the final of the Rogers Cup - one of his two Masters 1000 successes this year. Federer came out on top in the final at Halle, winning 6-1 6-3 on the German grass to prepare perfectly for a run to a record eighth title at Wimbledon.
