Surging Blues in Calgary

The St. Louis Blues go in search of a seventh consecutive victory on Thursday evening when they visit the Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.

Two points behind the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks in the Central Division standings, the Blues can draw level with their rivals should their fine form continue.

The Blues areĀ 1.83 to win the Central Division, with the Blackhawks 2.00.

Friday St. Louis travels on to the Rogers Arena in Vancouver to face the Canucks before getting the weekend off and hosting the Phoenix Coyotes early next week.

Chicago meanwhile has lost two in a row falling 3-2 to the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist stopped 35 of the 37 shots that he faced at the United Center and Carl Hagelin recorded his 11th of the campaign with a little under six minutes to play in regulation as the visitors stunned their hosts.

Over in San Jose the rivalry between the San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings is renewed when the former Western Conference Red Wings make their lone visit of the regular season.

Detroit’s move from one conference to the other had various ramifications; most of them good, but the unique rivalry between the Red Wings and the Sharks has suffered with just two games between the sides.

San Jose picked up a 1-0 shootout victory at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit back in October and the Sharks will look to complete the sweep on Thursday before awaiting the visit of the Boston Bruins over the weekend.
