Strettle says Saracens are on the up

Saracens’ winger David Strettle believes that they are getting back to the form which saw them become Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup finalists last season.

Although the London-based outfit currently reside in the top four in the Premiership, they have produced some below-par displays this campaign.

I think on a couple of weekends we haven’t been firing on all cylinders, but I think we’re getting there now.

At times Sarries have struggled to dispatch teams in the comfortable manner they expect, but, having defeated London Irish 22-6 last weekend, Strettle insisted that the team have found the right level heading into the Gloucester game.

“Kingsholm is another tough place to go, there are no easy games in this league and we know that we’re going to have to be at the top of our game to play there and get a good result,” he said.

“We were very happy as a team with what happened against Irish. It’s just about building confidence. We know we’re a good team and we know we can play really well.

“I think on a couple of weekends we haven’t been firing on all cylinders, but I think we’re getting there now.

“It’s a great team to be part of because you constantly have that confidence your generals – your nines and 10s – will play in the right areas and as a team you’re going to defend well.”

Despite an improved display against Irish in very difficult conditions, Saracens once again failed to get the try bonus-point and Strettle admitted that it could prove costly at the end of the campaign.

He added: “It could hurt us but, if you look at last week against Newcastle, we could have gone after the bonus-point and we nearly slipped up.

“We went away from the game plan which had served us for 70 minutes, we started doing things which was uncharacteristic for us and we nearly slipped up.”

Sarries can be backed atĀ 3.00 to win the Aviva Premiership Grand Final this season, with Leicester TigersĀ 6.50 and Northampton Saints 2.75.
