Alan Irvine’s West Bromwich future looks bleak after defeat at Stoke

Alan Irvine’s future at West Bromwich Albion may look bleak after his side lost at Stoke City on Sunday but the manager still believes he can steer them out of trouble despite a seventh league defeat in nine games that left the team lying 16th, a point above the relegation zone.

West Bromwich performed creditably until they succumbed to two second-half goals from the Senegal player Mame Biram Diouf – the first well taken, the second a fortuitous deflection – which secured Stoke’s second win of the holiday period.
