St Helens to make shock call by naming Justin Holbrook as coach

• Holbrook to take charge at Saints with immediate effect

St Helens are understood to have agreed a deal for Justin Holbrook to become their coach with immediate effect. The Saints have been looking for a coach since the departure of Keiron Cunningham last month. A three-man coaching team of Derek Traynor, Jamahl Lolesi and the former Great Britain half-back Sean Long have been in temporary charge.

The club had suggested they were in no rush to replace Cunningham, even saying Traynor, Lolesi and Long could remain in charge for the remainder of the season. The former Super League champions have settled on Holbrook after being impressed at a recent interview. It is understood he has agreed a three-year deal.
