Soccer – Smith hopes Defoe joins Cherries

Bournemouth star Adam Smith hopes Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe joins the Cherries this summer. The 34-year-old England international is expected to leave the Black Cats following their relegation and several teams are believed to be keen to sign him. Smith knows Defoe from their time together at Tottenham and thinks the striker will thrive at the Vitality Stadium. He said: "Hopefully, he will come here next season. He is constantly on your shoulder and really annoying to play against. "I think he would thrive in our team and, with all our creative players, he would get loads of chances." Bournemouth's next Premier League game is against Stoke City on Saturday. Eddie Howe's team are 8/1 with bet365 to win the match from behind while they are 17/2 to edge the mid-table clash 2-1.
