Soccer – Skipper role excites Carrick

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick says he is looking forward to leading from the front after being confirmed as the club's new captain ahead of next season. Manager Jose Mourinho has been quick in selecting his new skipper following Wayne Rooney's decision to return to his former club Everton. Having been given the armband for next season, the 35-year-old midfielder is looking forward to the role and has admitted it is special to be selected by Mourinho for the task at United, who are 10/3 with bet365 to win the Premier League next term. "It feels great and it is such a huge honour to captain such a great club," Carrick told MUTV. "I never thought I could be here for so long and achieve so much. I have grown to love the club over the years and to be in this position is very special." He added: "I will speak when I need to speak, but I am quite laid back and chilled out really. I will try to lead by example."
