Soccer – Saints start new manager search

Southampton have indicated that they hope to name a new manager soon after parting company with Mauricio Pellegrino on Monday evening. The 46-year-old replaced Claude Puel nine months ago but, with only eight matches of the Premier League season left, Saints are 17th in the table after winning just one of their last 17 top-flight games. Former Stoke City boss Mark Hughes and ex-Watford and Hull City manager Marco Silva are being linked with the position. Southampton, 15/8 with bet365 to be relegated this term, face League One side Wigan Athletic on Sunday in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. They can be backed at 23/20 to beat the Latics. Southampton issued a statement which read: "The club will look to appoint a new management team as soon as possible. The search for a replacement is already underway."
