Soccer – Rooney to stick with England

Wayne Rooney insists he will happily play on for England until the World Cup in 2018 even if he is not handed the captaincy by new boss Sam Allardyce. The 30-year-old held the armband during Roy Hodgson's reign, but Allardyce has already confirmed that he will wait until the squad meet up ahead of the World Cup qualification Group F opener in Slovakia on 4th September before making a decision. It led to speculation that Rooney could call it a day in international football if he is overlooked for the captaincy, but the Manchester United star has vowed to play on if he is selected. He told the Daily Mail: "I'll carry on until the World Cup in 2018 and then I might have a decision to make. "But for the next two years, captain or not captain, I'll turn up and be available to play if I am wanted." England are 2/5 to win qualifying Group F with bet365.
