Soccer – Pochettino pleased with Lamela’s progress

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes his patient attitude with Erik Lamela is set to be rewarded. The 23-year-old scored a hat-trick on Thursday as Spurs confirmed their place at the top of their Europa League group by beating Monaco 4-1. Lamela has struggled to impress following his £25.7million transfer from Roma in the summer of 2013 and has only scored four Premier League goals in 55 appearances for Spurs. However, Pochettino has been patient with the Argentine star and thinks the best is still to come from the player. He said: "It is true that today he is more confident and looks a different player from two years ago. "Always the younger players need time. They need time to improve, they need time to adapt their game to a new culture and a new country and sometimes it is a difficult process." Spurs entertain Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday. Lamela is available at 2/1 with bet365 to score at any time against Steve McClaren's side, who are 11/10 to be relegated this season.
