Soccer – Pardew’s Sturridge deal delight

Alan Pardew is delighted with the 'fantastic' loan signing of Daniel Sturridge from Premier League rivals Liverpool until the end of the season. The Baggies boss swooped to beat off competition from the likes of Inter Milan and Newcastle for the 28-year-old striker, who is desperate for regular first-team football in the second half of the season to boost his chances of being in Gareth Southgate's England squad for this summer's World Cup. And, while Sturridge has struggled with injury problems which has restricted him to just 55 Premier League games over the past four seasons at Liverpool, Pardew has backed him to boost his relegation-threatened side. "This is a big coup for us and I speak for my staff and my players and say 'thank you' to Daniel for agreeing to assist us in league and cup. He has fantastic talent and will strengthen our ambitions on both fronts." Sturridge is set to make his debut in Wednesday's trip to Premier League leaders Manchester City, where Albion are 20/1 with bet365 to secure a win.
