Soccer – No panic from Southgate

Gareth Southgate has backed his preferred style of play after seeing England lose 3-1 to the Netherlands in their Nations League semi-final. The Three Lions led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a Marcus Rashford penalty, but the Dutch responded to level through Matthijs de Ligt 17 minutes from time, before extra-time saw a Kyle Walker own goal and a Quincy Promes strike condemn England to defeat. Both goals in the extra 30 minutes came from errors as head coach Southgate's side tried to play out from the back, but he still has no doubts that this approach is the right one to take. He told reporters: "We have to play out better, but I don't think it's a case of stopping what we are doing. "If we didn't play that way, we wouldn't have got to the semi-finals we've got to in the last year, and we'd never progress to being a top team." England are priced at 9/2 with bet365 to triumph at Euro 2020.
