Soccer – Martinez backs Hazard for top award

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez has backed under-fire winger Eden Hazard to win the Ballon d'Or at Real Madrid. After the most prolific goalscoring campaign of his career in 2018/19, Real Madrid splashed out approximately €100m to bring Hazard to the Bernabeu. However, the 29-year-old's transition from English to Spanish football hasn't been as smooth as many anticipated. Nevertheless, Martinez, who has worked with Hazard at international level with Belgium, 5/1 with bet365 to win Euro 2020, believes his captain will eventually blossom into a Real legend. Speaking to Cadena SER, Martinez said: "Hazard will succeed. [Fans] can rest easy, because he will mark an era. There are no players like him, he can win the Ballon d'Or."
