Soccer – Kone asks to leave Sunderland

Sunderland defender Lamine Kone has revealed that he wants to leave the club even though he is under contract at the Stadium of Light until June 2020. The 27-year-old Ivory Coast international is being linked with a transfer to Everton only seven months after moving to the Stadium of Light from Lorient for £6million. He scored twice in 15 Premier League appearances last term as Sunderland avoided relegation. "At the end of the season I was told by the club that I would be offered a new contract but none has been forthcoming," explained Kone. "It is therefore with much regret that I can only assume that I do not figure in David Moyes' future plans and I have asked to be allowed to leave." Sunderland's first game of the Premier League campaign is against Manchester City on Saturday evening and they are 10/1 with bet365 to keep a clean sheet against Pep Guardiola's side. Meanwhile, Fabio Borini is 10/3 to be their top scorer in 2016/17.
