Soccer – Hornets happy to keep Deeney

Watford have no desire to allow out-of-favour striker Troy Deeney to leave the club in the New Year. The 29-year-old has had to settle for a back-up role for large parts of the current campaign, making just four Premier League starts to date, with his two goals both coming from the penalty spot. Deeney has seen his first-team opportunities limited by the summer arrivals of Andre Gray and Richarlison, although he did start in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham last weekend. And Silva has moved to calm talk of a January exit for Deeney, who has been with the Hornets for more than seven years since signing from Walsall. The Portuguese told reporters ahead of a tough trip to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Saturday afternoon: "I want him to fight and work every day to keep his position and, if he does not keep his position, I expect him to work hard to win it back. "I don't know anything about any offers for Troy. I don't want anybody to leave in January, we only want to buy." Deeney can be backed at 11/5 with bet365 to score at any time at Turf Moor.
