Soccer – Gunners aim for a fast start

Arsenal have been told by manager Arsene Wenger to show their strength by making a strong start to the new Premier League season. The Gunners defeated Chelsea 4-1 in a penalty shootout at Wembley on Sunday to lift the Community Shield, giving them a confidence boost ahead of the beginning of the league campaign, with Arsenal playing host to Leicester City on Friday evening. And Wenger, whose side are 11/1 with bet365 to be crowned champions, is keen to avoid a repeat of the poor starts made in the recent campaigns, with the Londoners having only won their opening fixture once in the last seven seasons. The Frenchman told reporters: "We want to find a good balance between the confidence we can get out of these games and the urgency that every Premier League game demands. "We had some bad starts in the first game of the Premier League over the last four years, but we've had the intensity in our games that is needed to be ready."
