Soccer – Everton opt to discard Allardyce

Marco Silva is being linked with the managerial vacancy at Everton after Sam Allardyce left Goodison Park on Wednesday. The former Hull City and Watford head coach had been club owner Farhad Moshiri's first choice when Ronald Koeman was dismissed seven months ago. Allardyce eventually signed a contract at the end of November 2017 that was not due to expire until the end of next season and he guided the club to eighth in the Premier League table, 16 points above the relegation zone. Chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale said: "We have made the decision that, as part of our longer-term plan, we will be appointing a new manager this summer and will be commencing this process immediately." Everton are 20/1 with bet365 to finish in the top four next season while Arsenal can be backed at 2/1.
