Soccer – End of the line for Schweinsteiger

Bastian Schweinsteiger has wished Germany all the best for the defence of the World Cup in 2018 after calling time on his illustrious international career. The 31-year-old midfielder has decided to bow out to allow head coach Joachim Low to build for the action in Russia in two years' time, with Germany 11/2 with bet365 to triumph again in 2018. He confirmed via social media: "By winning the 2014 World Cup we did something historic and also achieved something emotionally which will never be repeated again in my career. "Therefore it is only right and sensible to call it a day now and wish the team all the best for qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, and for the final tournament." Schweinsteiger scored 24 goals in 120 appearances for Die Mannschaft, helping them re-emerge as a leading force in world football in recent years.
