Soccer – Conte calls for Blues to dig deep

Chelsea's players have been warned by head coach Antonio Conte that they must "dig deeper" if they are to achieve success this season following Tuesday's 3-0 defeat at Roma in the Champions League. The reigning Premier League champions are currently nine points adrift of current leaders Manchester City, while their bid to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League in Rome were thwarted by the Italian Serie A side who cruised to victory in their Group C clash. As a result Chelsea, who are now 10/11 with bet365 to win their group, slipped to second in the standings but remain on course to qualify for the knockout stages as Atletico Madrid sit four points behind them with only two games remaining. But Conte issued words of warning to his players that they must significantly improve on Tuesday's display if they are to at least emulate last season's success. He said: "This season we have to dig very deep if we want to be competitive and fight for something important. If we are not ready to dig deeper, we can have this type of game."
