Soccer – Bilic sacked by West Ham

Slaven Bilic has been sacked as manager of West Ham with David Moyes now the favourite to replace him. The 49-year-old former Croatia international defender and manager was axed on the back of Saturday's disappointing 4-1 defeat against Liverpool at the London Stadium, which left the side in the Premier League's final relegation place. Bilic penned a three-year deal in summer 2015 and guided the Hammers to seventh in his first season, which was the club's final campaign at Upton Park. The side struggled to adapt to their new home last term and eventually finished 11th, while two wins from 11 matches so far this season were the final straw. In a statement, West Ham said they "believe a change is now necessary in order for the club to move forward positively and in line with their ambition". Moyes is now set to return to football, having been out of work since departing relegated Sunderland in the summer, with the Hammers 9/4 with bet365 to be relegated this season.
