Slow start concerns Howe

January 21, 2015 10:16:11 UK

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe rued his team’s slow start as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Leeds United on Tuesday.

The Cherries, 1.80 to be promoted this season, were far from their best as they were beaten at Elland Road, Luke Murphy scoring the only goal of the match in the 36th minute.

Bournemouth had a great chance to grab a late equaliser but Yann Kermorgant missed his penalty.

They put us under pressure and I thought they played well in the first half.

Howe said afterwards: “We created a number of chances in the second half and a couple at the end of the first half when we finished very strongly.

“But the big disappointment for us was the way we started and the way we gave Leeds a chance to get their crowd behind them early in the game.

“Our game-plan had been to quieten the crowd and try to make a fast start but they put us under pressure and I thought they played well in the first half.”

Bourenmouth have the chance to get back to winning ways when they play Aston Villa in the FA Cup this weekend. They are 9.50 to beat the Premier League side 1-0 and 4.33 to score in both halves of the fourth-round encounter.
