Shockers host the Redbirds

The Wichita State Shockers play the second game of their Missouri Valley Conference schedule on Sunday when the Redbirds of Illinois State visit the Charles Koch Arena.

Ranked at No. 11 to start the season, the Shockers moved into the top 10 of the Associated Press Top 25 early in the season, but losses to the Utah Utes and Colonials of George Washington have pushed Gregg Marshall’s side down to #16th in the country.

Tuesday Wichita State was not particularly impressive in taking their MVC opener when they travelled to the Knapp Center in Des Moines, IA and defeated Drake 66-58.

Ron Baker paced the visitors with 23 points on 8-of-15 from the field, but Tekele Cotton was the only other scorer in double figures as the Bulldogs did their best to frustrate the Shockers.

One place below Wichita State the Mountaineers of West Virginia got the better of the undefeated, but unranked, Horned Frogs of TCU 78-67 at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth.

TCU’s fairly unimpressive non-conference schedule had been held against Trent Johnson’s side and that appeared well justified as the Mountaineers took the Big 12 Conference opener.

Curiously West Virginia’s one loss had been to the LSU Tigers, the side that Johnson left in 2012 to move from the SEC to the Big 12. Bob Huggins’ side is in Lubbock on Monday to face the Red Raiders of Texas Tech while the Horned Frogs are in Manhattan to visit Kansas State.

Meanwhile, in the NBA, the Spurs areĀ 5.00 to win the end of season NBA Championship with the CavaliersĀ 6.00 and the Bulls 6.00.
