Sharks blank the Ducks in Anaheim

Joe Pavelski played a key role in the Sharks win against the Ducks.

The San Jose Sharks snapped a three-game slide on Wednesday when they went down to the Honda Center in Anaheim and shutout the Ducks 3-0.

Joe Pavelski opened the scoring in the first and added a second early in the third period as the Sharks took advantage on the power play to jump out in front of the Division leaders. Logan Couture would then round out the scoring into an empty net as San Jose moved even with the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames in the Pacific Division, all tied for second place behind Anaheim.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings sit a point behind the Sharks, Canucks and Flames in the standings and travel to the Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Thursday evening in the finale of a three-game Northwest road swing.

The Kings will be looking to get something from the trip after falling to the Flames and Edmonton Oilers on Monday and Tuesday respectively. LA secured a regulation point in Edmonton before losing the shootout at the Rexall Place, but will have expected more from the visit given the recent struggles of the Oilers.

It’s then back home to the Staples Center in LA for the Kings on Saturday and an intriguing clash with the Nashville Predators. The Central Division side will be well rested following Tuesday’s win over the St. Louis Blues and will need to be as they carry on down to Anaheim on Sunday.

The Sharks are 16.00 to win the Stanley Cup, while the Ducks can be backed at 9.00.
