Saints suffer Foden blow

Northampton Saints have been hit by the news full-back Ben Foden is set to be out for the remainder of the Aviva Premiership campaign.

The England international, who will also miss the entirety of the Six Nations championship, suffered a knee injury in the European Champions Cup win over Ospreys on Sunday.

Further analysis has revealed Foden has ruptured his left anterior cruciate ligament and the 29-year-old is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The former Sale Sharks star tweeted: “Thanks for the support, it’s a hard pill to swallow.

“I guess it’s the nature of the beast.”

Foden’s chances of making the World Cup on English soil, which starts in September, are now in serious doubts as there looks set to be limited time for the player to prove himself to head coach Stuart Lancaster before the start of the tournament.

England are 2.62 to win the Six Nations outright, while Northampton can be backed at 2.75 to win the Aviva Premiership Grand Final.
