Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett has confirmed that Nikola Zigic is training with the club and could be set for a dramatic return to St Andrew’s.

The 34-year-old striker is a free agent after being released by the Blues at the end of last season but has continued to live in the South Birmingham area.

The Serbian initially moved to City in the summer of 2010 and scored 32 goals in 128 league appearances for the club.

“Obviously he is a player who is available and I am aware of the contribution to this club over the last four years,” said Rowett.

“We have had a chat and invited him to come and train with us. It’s just a mutual thing at present: we can have a look at him, he can have a look at us and how we do things as we are a new management team.”

Zigic, who helped Birmingham win the 2011 Carling Cup and also escape the drop to League One at the end of last season, was linked with a shock move to Arsenal in the summer.

Birmingham are 2.75 to be relegated from the Championship this season while Blackpool, who are currently at the foot of the table, are available at 1.062 to finish in the bottom three.
