Rose pens new Mariners deal

January 17, 2015 11:54:43 UK

Defender Joshua Rose has signed a contract extension that will keep him with Central Coast Mariners until he is 35.

Rose is staying with the Mariners until the end of the 2016/17 season, which will give him the chance to pass the 200-games mark at the Gosford club. He has scored eight goals so far in his 147 appearances, since signing in 2010 following a four-year spell in Romania with Universitatea Craiova.

Rose helped the Mariners win the A-League premiership in his second season in 2011/12, and won the championship with them under Graham Arnold the following year.

The 33-year-old said he was excited to have signed up for another two years, adding that the dressing room and culture at the club, who are 26.00 to win the Grand Final, suited his style.

“My main aim over the next two years will be to look at keeping myself as fit as possible and making sure I am available for selection every week,” said Rose. “If I can do that, I think I’ll do as much as I can to help the team.”

Mariners coach Phil Moss says Rose is a big part of his plan for the team moving forward.

“I think his performances this season have been very strong wherever he plays,” added the coach. “I think one of the most important things about ‘Rosey’ is that he knows the philosophy of the club, to bring some young players through, and he’s willing to help in that regard.

“I never take for granted the senior players at our club and how good they are with the dressing room and the culture. At the end of the day, it all comes down to performance, and Rosey is fully deserving of a new deal.”

Moss said Central Coast, who are 3.25 to finish in the top six, were likely to make another signing during the transfer window, to add to this week’s capture of Dejan Pandurevic.
