Rodgers upbeat for top-four finish

Manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that his Liverpool side are improving all the time and will be serious contenders for a top-four finish come the end of the season.

The Reds won 2-0 at Aston Villa on Saturday to make it four wins for their last five league outings and Rodgers, while accepting that his team had struggled earlier on in the campaign, is now confident that they are right back on track.

It’s still the objective (finishing in the top four) and we’ll keep working.

He told reporters: “If we can get through to the end of January and be near it then, like we showed last year, we can put a run together that can see us in there.

“It’s still the objective (finishing in the top four) and we’ll keep working – we still have improvements to make.

“We have regained our identity in how the team has played for two years. It is fair to say that in the opening four months or so of the season we were just nowhere near what we have been.

“We needed to find a solution to that. There has been a lot of hard work, the players have got confidence now in the way of working and they have been performing very, very well.”

The Reds were seventh in the Premier League table following Saturday’s games, still five points adrift of Manchester United, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot.

Liverpool are available at 6.50 to secure a top-four finish this season, with Tottenham 6.50 and Arsenal 1.57.
