Robben revels in Lewandowski raid

The high-profile signing of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund will make Bayern Munich “even stronger”, winger Arjen Robben has predicted.

The worst-kept secret in Bundesliga was confirmed on Saturday when 25-year-old Lewandowski announced he had agreed a five-year contract to join last season’s Treble winners at the end of the current campaign.

The Poland international moves to the Allianz-Arena to beef up an attacking department already top-heavy with talent and boasting the likes of Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Muller.

The move is a bitter blow for domestic rivals BVB given that Lewandowski has scored 91 goals in 165 competitive fixtures, and Netherlands flyer Robben said he will add more depth to Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad – even though the Bavarians are the Bundesliga’s current top scorers on 42.

“I think he’s a great player and one of the best strikers in the world,” Robben told Sport 1 in Germany.

“We’re already pretty strong but he’ll make our squad even stronger and that can only be a good thing.”

Bayern Munich can be backed at 1.01 in the Bundesliga outright winner market and 3.25 to win this season’s Champions League.
