Have to send best wishes to the French gymnast Samir Ait Said, by the way. He was competing in the men’s vault yesterday and sustained what seems to have been a badly broken leg. No way for your Games to end, and hopefully he’ll make a full recovery at the top level.

Victoria Pendleton’s dad Max is on the telly over here, talking about the constraints imposed on cyclists by the rules on drug testing. He says it’s all too tight, the windows too narrow, and that unless somebody is supporting the rider constantly then mistakes could well happen. “If not turning up at the right time costs you your future it’s a big stretch,” he says.
