Restrepo gets back to his best

Gavin Lang has fired a warning to Guaranteed and Philadelphia Man after driving Restrepo to a breathtaking victory in the Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup on Sunday.

Lang has driven all three of the Emma Stewart-trained big guns to feature race success in recent weeks, and he believes Restrepo can only get better.

The Summer of Glory on 31st January and 7th February is now the target and Laing confirmed Restrepo is back to his best in his cup presentation speech yesterday.

Lang spoke of his affinity with Restrepo, having driven the six-year-old at his first 42 racetrack starts before swapping to Philadelphia Man, which defeated Restrepo to win the Horsham Pacing Cup last weekend.

“It was good to get back on today,” Lang said after the victory.

Last season’s Ballarat Cup winner took off with a lap to go and muscled his way to the front before running his rivals ragged with sustained power, leaving the deepest Hamilton Cup field in recent memory in his wake.

Restrepo won by 21.4m over the Kerryn Manning trained-and-driven Arden Rooney, while Arber finished third for trainer Tim Bolitho and reinsman Greg Sugars.
