Redknapp reins in on Remy loan hopes

Harry Redknapp has said he will have to scour the loan market in January and revealed a return to QPR for striker Loic Remy from Chelsea is unlikely.

The Loftus Road boss has made no secret of his desire to beef up his attacking options and has openly expressed an interest in being reunited with the likes of Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch.

Redknapp believes he will have to work harder than ever to convince other clubs to part with their players but is hoping deals can be struck.

He told reporters: “We need another two or three players actually – on loan – but who’s going to loan you a good player at this time of year?

“All the teams in the bottom half, they won’t, and all the teams in the top half – they’re in Europe or trying to get into Europe – they’re not going to loan you top players so it’s difficult.”

Top scorer Charlie Austin has netted 12 of the club’s 21 goals so far this season and Redknapp knows he cannot rely solely on the England hopeful.

Chelsea triggered a £10.5million release clause in Remy’s contract in August to sign the France striker on a four-year deal but the 27-year-old is behind Spain talisman Diego Costa in the pecking order.

Redknapp said he did not think his Stamford Bridge counterpart, Jose Mourinho, would allow Remy to leave the league leaders.

“It’s what we are, it’s where we are,” he added.

“We bought some players at the end of the summer but we lost Remy on the deadline, and that really cost us because he’d have had eight or 10 goals by now.

“Maybe he’ll come back, he’s not getting a game at Chelsea, perhaps they’ll loan him back here – but I don’t think they will.”

QPR are currently priced 2.75 to be relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
