Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has confirmed the club are unlikely to make any major signings in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils have made a stuttering start to the season and sit in seventh place in the Premier League table with 13 points between themselves and frontrunners Chelsea.

United have been strongly linked with a few targets in the January transfer window to help manager Louis van Gaal get his side back challenging closer to the top of the table.

However Woodward is adamant there will be no panic buying in the New Year and has confirmed the next the major signings are likely to arrive next summer.

He was quoted by the BBC, saying: “We are not looking to enter the market for short-term fixes.

“However, we have targets we are looking at for next summer.

“Should any of them become available in January, which is obviously rare, we will consider acting. But it is a low probability.”

United are 51.00 to win the Premier League title this season, while Chelsea are 1.16 to be crowned champions.
