QPR have signed forward Mauro Zarate on loan from Premier League rivals West Ham for the rest of the season.

Zarate has been unable to force his way into the Hammers side this season, and he is relishing the opportunity to secure regular football at Loftus Road.

“I need this. I need to play and Queens Park Rangers gave me the chance to show what I can do,” he told QPR’s official website.

“It’s very difficult when you don’t play. The last year I played every game in Argentina so coming to West Ham and not playing was very bad for me and very bad for my career, so I decided to come to QPR to play.”

The forward only moved to Upton Park in the summer from Velez Sarsfield in his homeland of Argentina, although he has previous experience of English football with Birmingham City and also enjoyed stints in Italy with Lazio and Inter Milan.

Zarate, who has opted to play his international football for Chile, managed five Premier League starts for West Ham and two further appearances as a substitute, scoring two goals for the club.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is delighted to have secured the 27-year-old’s services for the remainder of the campaign.

He said: “We’re really pleased to bring Mauro in. He’s a good footballer, someone with great ability who can play as a No.10.

“I first saw him when he was on loan at Birmingham quite a few years back and I actually tried to take him to Portsmouth back then. He’s a more-than capable player, he’s already shown that, and hopefully he can come in here and do well for us.”

QPR can be backed at 2.37 to be relegated this season, while Crystal Palace are 2.37 to go down and Hull are priced at 3.25.
