Ptit Zig seeks four-timer at Cheltenham

January 01, 2015 10:54:51 UK

Paul Nicholls’ exciting novice chaser Ptit Zig goes in search of a fourth success over fences in The Dipper Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.

Ptit Zig was a hugely impressive winner of the Mitie Novices’ Chase at Ascot a fortnight ago, slamming the Nicky Henderson trained Josses Hill with almost effortless ease.

He’s in good form and I think we’re going there looking forward to it and fairly confident.

Currently aimed at the JLT Novices’ Chase during the Cheltenham Festival in March, Ptit Zig will once again have the assistance of Sam Twiston-Davies in the saddle – the duo remain unbeaten in three outings together.

Ptit Zig’s part-owner Barry Fulton is “fairly confident” of extending the unbeaten run to four.

“He’s in good form and I think we’re going there looking forward to it and fairly confident,” Fulton said.

“He’s done nothing wrong over fences so far. This will be his fourth run of the season and I think he’ll probably have a break after this, as most of Paul’s horses do in January.”

Fulton is keen to his Ptit Zig getting acquainted with the Cheltenham fences before the festival itself.

“I think it’s a good idea to go to Cheltenham with him ahead of the big meeting in March and hopefully everything will go well.”

Among his chief rivals on New Year’s Day will be Henderson’s Champagne West, himself an exciting winner over fences at Cheltenham’s International Meeting in December.

Ptit Zig is 2.25 to win the 1.20 at Cheltenham, with Champagne West 5.00 and Urban Hymn 9.00.
