Pro 12 final: Connacht fired up for final drive against Leinster

Victory at Murrayfield would be the culmination of three years’ hard work under their New Zealand coach Pat Lam

Connacht would complete a remarkable rags-to-riches story should they defeat Leinster at Murrayfield on Saturday. Victory in the Guinness Pro12 final would bear all the hallmarks of an Irish fairytale – the Cinderella province, once on the brink of extinction, in its first decider, sealing the title against the Irish aristocrats – one of the most successful teams in Europe.

And yet, such tags no longer sit well with Connacht after three seasons under their Kiwi coach, Pat Lam. While Connacht have never finished above mid-table, they knew they were close last year to achieving Champions Cup rugby. Losing at least five games by narrow margins, and also the play-off with Gloucester, there was a growing confidence and belief that success was within their grasp if they could turn those bonus point defeats into wins this season.
