Pride Rock set for Adelaide runs

Trainer Robbie Griffiths says he could target stakes races in Adelaide in the autumn for Pride Rock, following her impressive win in the Riverside Handicap.

The three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock cruised to a commanding victory to notch her first city success and her second win in three outings.

Pride Rock had one-and-a-quarter lengths to spare to the race leader Roll The Ignition with a further length back to Devon Princess, another on-pace runner.

I think the stakes races in Victoria will come around too soon so we will look to Adelaide,

She came from the rear at the 400m mark to overrun her rivals with ease.

Griffiths did consider stakes races in Victoria, but believes they will come too soon for his horse and will instead hold fire until Adelaide.

“She has come of age in the off-season and I’m sure she will get to stakes level,” Griffiths said after her latest success.

“I think the stakes races in Victoria will come around too soon so we will look to Adelaide,” the Cranbourne trainer added.

Jockey Craig Williams, fresh from a minor Christmas break with his family, has no doubt the filly will make the grade.

“She has lovely scope, can accelerate and has a black-type feel to her,” he said.

“She is a really nice filly and I was a little more patient today down the straight and she responded well.”

Lucia Valentina is 9.00 to win the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, with Adelaide 6.00 and Just A Way 7.00.
