Podolski aims to become Inter great

Germany forward Lukas Podolski is aiming to become a Nerazzurri great after sealing a loan move from Arsenal to Italian giants Inter Milan.

The 29-year-old had been with the Gunners since the summer of 2012, but has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot and has opted to try his luck in Serie A, where he hopes to make a major impact.

Having scored 31 times in 82 appearances for the Gunners, Podolski moves to Inter initially until the end of the season, with an option reportedly in place for a permanent deal.

Podolski posted via Twitter and Instagram: “I can’t express in words my gratitude towards Arsenal fans for all they have done for me. Please know my heart always holds a place for you.

“I’ve loved every minute playing for Arsenal and I hope I have left my mark on the club and fans alike.”

And of his new challenge at the San Siro he added: “I want to give a special thanks to coach Roberto Mancini who made a big effort for me to come to Inter, he made it an easy decision for me.

“I hope to rank among club legends like Ronaldo, Zanetti, Klinsmann, Brehme, Matthaus and many others one day.”

Inter are currently down in 11th place in the Italian top-flight, having won just five of their 16 league games so far this season and on Tuesday evening they head to Turin to take on leaders and defending champions Juventus.

The Nerazzurri are 4.33 to secure a draw in Turin, with Juve 1.44 to win the game and 6.00 to secure a 2-0 victory.
