Pochettino plotting transfer talks

Mauricio Pochettino has said he hopes to speak to his Tottenham paymasters about potential transfer targets when the window opens on Thursday.

The capital club brought in the likes of Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, Eric Dier, Deandre Yedlin, Federico Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli in the summer and remain in the hunt to secure a coveted top-four finish at the end of the season.

They have also secured places in the last 32 of the Europa League and the League Cup semi-final in Pochettino’s first full season at the helm.

The north Londoners ended the calendar year with a goalless draw against Manchester United at White Hart Lane on Sunday and head coach Pochettino revealed in his news conference he plans to speak to club officials about his transfer plans.

The former Southampton manager refused to be drawn on specific targets but suggested he will look to make a few tweaks to his squad.

He told reporters: “We are happy with our squad, I think when the first of January arrives we will start to talk with the club.”

Pochettino also reserved special praise for France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for his heroics against Louis van Gaal’s expensively-assembled side.

He said: “Lloris is one of the best keepers in the world. It’s not new for me, we know the quality of Hugo.”

Tottenham next face leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane on New Year’s Day and are quoted 4.75 in the match betting. The draw outcome is priced 3.75 and away win 1.83.
